Amorim Confirms Lengthy Layoff for Benjamin Sesko After Tottenham Injury

‎Manchester United supporters have received unwelcome news after Ruben Amorim confirmed that Benjamin Sesko will spend a significant spell on the sidelines following the injury he picked up against Tottenham before the international break. The forward’s recovery timeline places him in a race to return before Bryan Mbeumo departs for the Africa Cup of Nations.

‎Sesko’s move from RB Leipzig to Old Trafford in August created major expectations, with the 22-year-old considered an important part of the club’s long-term planning under Amorim. The striker arrived with a reputation for athletic strength and strong finishing ability but has recorded two goals across 12 matches.
‎The momentum he hoped to build early in the season was disrupted during the 2-2 draw with Spurs. He entered the match as a second-half substitute but was withdrawn shortly afterward due to a knee problem sustained in a collision with Micky van de Ven, leaving United to finish the game with 10 men. Scans showed the injury was not a serious long-term issue, but the striker was ruled out for several weeks.
‎Amorim stated that Sesko is expected to be absent for “a few weeks” and suggested his return could coincide with the period when other United forwards prepare for AFCON duties in December.
‎The United manager explained the situation further, saying Sesko is improving but requires careful management. He added that the expected timeline places the striker’s comeback around the same period that Mbeumo will join his national team’s preparations.
‎Amorim also provided updates on Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo. He confirmed Maguire is not ready to return and noted that Mainoo missed training but could be involved soon. He mentioned that the situation may create opportunities for younger players to step in.
‎The discussion around United’s squad depth continued with comments from former defender Wes Brown, who suggested that Manchester United should consider any significant transfer offer for Bruno Fernandes from the Saudi Pro League. Fernandes attracted interest during the summer but opted to remain at Old Trafford. Brown noted that future offers may require serious evaluation.
‎Manchester United move into their next fixture looking to extend a five-match unbeaten run as they host Everton on Monday. The team has climbed to seventh in the Premier League after a mixed start, staying within reach of the Champions League positions. Mbeumo’s strong form, highlighted by four goals in his last four league matches, adds a major boost to their attacking strength. Everton head into the match without an away win since August.
